All the rivers of the Varzina system support wild populations of large and truly strong Atlantic salmon. Fish up to 35 lbs. and more, crystal clear water, great variety of waters all with a large number of fishable pools – combine to make a visit to the Varzina an unforgettable experience. The fishing ranges from easy wading and instruction for beginners to more challenging pools for the demanding salmon connoisseur. Daily helicopter flights fly anglers to the pools. There is one experienced guide for each two fishermen. The guides (British, Finnish and Russian) know the rivers well and can help with fish spotting, fly selection and casting tips as necessary.
The lodge's main building contains a spacious dining room, a comfortable lounge bar and the kitchen. It is also equipped with satellite phone, fax, and e-mail facilities. They have a fly shop on the premises for any of those bits of tackle you forgot to pack. Varzina River Lodge is a Saturday to Saturday program. Untouched wilderness, clear water and clean air combine with excellent fishing to make the Varzina River Lodge a truly wonderful angling destination.
The first early salmon are huge. They run from June to early July. Then the mid-sized fish follow and finally the numerous grilse fill all the pools. Fresh run, sea-liced fish can be found even high up in all the rivers throughout the whole season.
The brown trout fishing on the Upper Varzina is one of the wonders of the fishing world. Few other places in the world can offer brown trout fishing of this quality and variety. What would be a trophy trout anywhere else is just an average fish in this river.
