ChileWe are proud to offer the most extensive choice of superb fishing destinations in Chile. We have specialized in the area for over a decade, and pioneered many of the programs featured in magazines. We speak from experience.
Chile is a jewel in the crown of South American trout fishing. We usually fish both Chile and Argentina each winter. Our frequent visits and specialization on the region permit us to know and represent Chile's finest. Chile's capital Santiago, is a safe, elegant city with excellent hotels, restaurants, shopping, and, of course, famed Chilean wine, all at reasonable prices. A few days here would, by itself, make a memorable vacation.
This is a fishing trip non-angling spouses say they enjoy as much as the anglers. Chile is stable, clean, sophisticated, and extremely hospitable. Accommodations are charming and comfortable. The food and wine are superb, the scenery unsurpassed. We often have groups of couples with the non-angler as excited to return as the angler. When To Go & How To Get There The best fishing in Chile is South of around 37 degrees Southern latitude. My home in Portland is near 45 degrees North. Seasons are reversed with our December being their June. Like Oregon, Chile's fishing areas have both rain forests and semi-arid plains (Patagonia.) Peak season is January-March, but fishing can be excellent from mid-November to mid-April. The two main fishing centers are the Lake District (Puerto Montt/Puerto Varas, a 90 minute jet flight south of Santiago) and the Coyhaique region (accessed via Balmaceda airport, a 3 hour jet flight south of Santiago.) We also offer fishing at Cameron Lodge on the Chilean section of the Rio Grande in Tierra del Fuego.
Some of the lodges have fixed turnover days, others do not. Individual itineraries are easily arranged for any length stay by mixing and matching the lodges. Multiple lodge visits flow effortlessly. Many guests will visit multiple destinations, and often elect to extend the trip to Argentina where I also have outstanding lodges and private estancias. Our Recommendations Having specialized in the area for many years, we are able to access the most desirable destinations for clients. The owners of these lodges are personal friends with whom we frequently visit and fish. Each lodge has a long and distinguished record of providing outstanding angling and service for clients . We have carefully avoided the off-season US guide operations, some of which operate outside the laws of Chile . The question is not which is better, but rather which is best suited to client preferences.
With numerous airlines serving Argentina and Chile, the air fare to arrive in one country and depart another is reasonable. Fares are very competitive and service is excellent. Fish several areas with ease.Due to our extensive experience in Patagonia we have the inside track on getting from one lodge to another. We utilize unpublished scheduled air service, border hand offs, and special charters so clients can fish multiple areas and never miss a beat. For a more leisurely pace, We can arrange a one or two-day ferry boat trip across the incredibly beautiful Lake Todo los Santos and Lake Nahuelhuapi that joins Puerto Montt, Chile and Bariloche, Argentina. The two-day crossing includes a night in the hamlet of Peulla in a Swiss-style hotel by a magnificent falls. Jet service (45 minutes) is also available.
