Photo by Craig DerbyKau-Tapen ("house of fishing" in the Ona language) is the original fishing lodge in Tierra del Fuego and the standard of elegance by which other lodges are measured. What started as the brainchild of Jorge Donovan and Jacqueline De Las Carreras over twenty years ago has revolutionized the way in which the fishing world views big trout. And, while the name Kau-Tapen might be cumbersome to newcomers, the lodge has made the Rio Grande a household name for fly anglers the world over. Impeccable accommodations, plenty of elbow room on the Río Grande, caring guides, select vehicles and equipment, Argentina's best wines and menus, and enviable fishing records since 1984.

Photo by German PancoKau Tapen has been improved each and every year by the de las Carreras family, who enjoy a loyal and almost fanatical clientele. Kau Tapen boasts nine spacious guest rooms in addition to convivial living and bar areas, and here guests will find elegant refuge from the conditions out of doors. This award-winning lodge offers amenities such as massage, sauna and a steam room, and drying rooms for wet gear. An acclaimed chef and house staff are experienced and anxious to serve. Fine Argentine wines are chosen as a complement to each meal, and menus will delight even the most discriminating palate.
