The freshwater Dorado is known in Argentina as the "tiger of the river." These powerful, acrobatic fish are fun to catch on a fly.

Pirá Lodge, on the edge of the Iberá Marshlands of the Province of Corrientes, is the place to go in search of these magnificent fish. Opened in March 2000, Pira Lodge takes just 10 guests a week.

Dorado are exceptionally plentiful here due to the astonishing clarity of the water, the fishing is unparalleled in excitement and beauty. Floating lines and traditional saltwater streamers as well as many of the lodge's own deadly patterns are used to make tasty presentations to waking fish.

Pirá Lodge is open year-round with the prime fishing season being January - April.

Pirá Lodge is located in the Ibera Marshland, one of the most unique and fascinating wetlands in the world. Over 3 million acres of unexplored and uninhabited marshland in the northeastern corner of Argentina are the setting for some of the most exciting fishing you will ever do. The marsh is a vast system of crystal-clear creeks, flowing rivers, shallows, and lakes - imagine an area over twice the size of the Florida Everglades. The lodge uses modern Hell's Bay flats skiffs to explore this enormous expanse.

The marshlands are home to a relative of the salmon, the Golden Dorado, who's strong runs and relentless jumps will get your heart pounding like no other fish in it's class. As one excited guest remarked "the take is like a freight train!"

The incomparable variety of wildlife found in the enormous marsh allows you to combine fishing with a number of other activities. Kayaking, horseback riding, and bird watching are a few of the other ways to spend warm summer days. Or if you are looking for a more relaxed activity, grab a book and curl up on one of the hammocks or bench swings that line the shaded galleries, take a refreshing dip in the lodge's 20 meter swimming pool, or stroll through the virgin wilderness at your own pace.

Pirá Lodge was designed to provide its guests not only with remarkable fishing experience, but also with tremendous comfort With only five guest rooms, you will never feel crowded. Each air-conditioned room has two double beds, and large French doors that open to wide verandas with sprawling views. Large bathrooms with double windows afford a peaceful place to unwind in a bath or relax as high-volume showerheads drown tight casting muscles.

Most meals are taken in the dining room, adjacent to the spacious great room with oversized couches and comfortable armchairs, and unique furniture crafted by local artisans. The bar, always the most popular place to meet after a day's fishing, is fully stocked and available to you throughout the day.

For those with a discerning palate, you are in for a real surprise. Despite the isolated location, the chef at Pira Lodge focuses on typical Argentine dishes but with his creative personal flair and impeccable presentation, and he will leave you dazzled.

Each meal is a three course journey through Argentina's different culinary influences from its famed beef, and local lamb, to homemade pastas, and divine desserts. Each meal is accompanied by wonderful Argentine wines.
