Rapids Camp Lodge
Rapids Camp Lodge is located on the famous Naknek River Rapids. While it is only seven miles up-river from King Salmon and just an eighty minute flight from Anchorage, it is a world away from the hustle and bustle of every day life and close to perfect. The Bristol Bay watershed is home to pristine wilderness, majestic views, enormous rainbow trout, five species of salmon during early migrations, Artic char, grayling, pike and trout, as well as the second largest national park in the United States. Katmai National Park is 4.2 million acres of virtually untouched; wilderness where you can find moose, caribou, wolves, eagles and, of course, the Alaskan brown bear.
Homey and friendly, comfortable and private. You'll be hooked before the fish are. The lodge is situated on 10 acres of serene riverfront property. Rapids Camp accommodates a total of 16 guests per week in eight spacious, double occupancy rooms. Each with a private bathroom.
You'll find everything you need under one roof; Hearty Alaskan meals in the dining room, cold beer and fine wines in the Dry Fly Bar, a cozy fireplace in the main room. Even an outdoor hot tub. After a day's fishing, relax with an extraordinary view of the river and mountains.
Some of the finest fishing in Alaska is available right outside the lodge's back door in the famous Naknek River rapids. You can take a four minute boat ride to the rapids or visit one hot spot after another; or you can head just fifteen minutes down river right into the thick of king salmon action. If you prefer even more solitude - just you, your companion, the majesty of the wilderness and the occasional bear, explore the remote streams and rivers within Bristol Bay watershed with a short hop by plane. You'll find plenty of fish in every direction.
The lodge's guides are qualified and seasoned experts who want to see that you have the fishing trip of a lifetime. They specialize in river and lake fishing and are armed for your protection. You can fly-fish, spin-fish, or both. The lodge provides well maintained fishing equipment that's ready when you are. Of course, if you prefer your own rod, reel, waders and hip boots, by all means bring them with you.
The Rainbow fishing around Rapids Camp Lodge and the Bristol Bay watershed is truly legendary. The rainbow trout are pure bred, native and wild. They have never been introduced, stocked or fed. They have thrived in this area for centuries and grow to immense proportions. Along with these giants, you'll find char, grayling, pike and lake trout. And we see the yearly migration of king, sockeye, chum, pink and silver salmon.
